FIVE ARE INJURED IN WRECK AT AVONDALE
Chair Car and Smoker of Mo. Pac. Train Drops Into Ditch - None Hurt Will Die.
Colorado Springs Gazette - Telegraph - PUEBLO, Colo., Aug. 8 - The chair car and smoker of Missouri Pacific passenger train No. 2 which leaves at 12:01 p. m. for St. Louis, went into the ditch at Avondale, 13 miles east of here, at 12:30 today, and were overturned.
Five people were injured but none will die. The injured:
Ollie O. Moore, Pueblo.
Lloyd Brown, Ordway, Colo.
F. E. Ruthbun, Piedmont, W. Va.
Mrs. Vergie Martin, Los Angeles, California.
Mrs. L. E. Caperton, St. Louis, Mo.
All of the injured were brought to the Pueblo hospitals with the exception of Mrs. Caperton who was able to continue on her journey.
The cause of the wreck was spreading rails. While the Pullmans left the track they did not overturn.
The train later detoured on the Santa Fe and it was announced that the track would be cleared for traffic early tomorrow morning.
