George F. Hall
George F. Hall was employed by the American Fur Company on the Yellowstone River before coming to Colorado from Salt Lake City in 1861. He first operated the 29-mile Ranch near Canon City and in 1863 moved to Pueblo. Hall had a prosperous saloon business. He also was agent for the weekly Rocky Mountain News, the only newspaper circulating in the area at that time. He regaled his friends with stories of his experiences on the frontier. Over time he acquired considerable property in Pueblo. He never recovered from financial reverses which struck in 1873. Hall died from consumption on February 5, 1882, at his home on Santa Fe Avenue. Friends of the family collected money for the funeral expenses with seventy-five dollars additional to give to his widow and their several small children.
