True, Alvin E. "Kip" (1844 – 1949)

A veteran of the Civil War, and one of the first pioneers of the Nepesta area, A. E. True arrived ahead of the railroad, in 1872. He homesteaded land near the “Rio Nepesta” River. He married Eliza C. Aldred 14 March1880.

Indians were a common sight along the river bottom, and were often camped on True’s land. True stated in his memoirs, he once witnessed an Indian scalp dance, watching from a treetop.

He and his wife, Eliza are buried together in Nepesta Cemetery, Nepesta, Pueblo County, Colorado. There is a marker on their grave.
