Contributed by Jean Griesan.
Of Slovenian heritage, Cyril Zupan became the second pastor at St. Mary’s Church in Pueblo, serving from 1894 to 1939. He understood and related to his congregation, a trait which endeared him to the community.
In 1917, Father Cyril Zupan campaigned to organize a Holy Rosary parish in Denver. Bishop Tihen of Denver granted the petition in 1918.
Father Zupan commuted by train from Pueblo to Denver, serving as the first pastor from 1918 to 1921.
He is buried in Block 21, Lot 153 (in Roselawn Cemetery).
