Pueblo County, Colorado
Fort Lyon
Colorado Weekly Chieftains, August 6, 1868 Fort Lyon, named in honor of Gen. Nathaniel Lyon, who fell in the late war, is also in Pueblo county, nearly opposite the mouth of the Las Animas, and about one hundred miles below Pueblo. These military posts, to one unfamiliar with the expense of their maintenance, may seem a very trivial matter, but such is not the case. They furnish constant and lucrative employment to a great many men and teams, and consume a large amount of the surplus productions of the country about them.
